How to Use Herbs to Slim Down and Stay Healthy
Most people have some plan for slimming down and shedding extra pounds on their list of New Year's resolutions. What if it's not New Year’s when you decide to take you health into your own hands? How would you approach slimming down in a healthy way?

Many of you already know that a healthy nutrition plan and exercise is the key. While it doesn't have to be the running of a marathon, consistent exercise is a crucial part of your regimen.

On the other side of the plan is nutrition. A long term healthy eating plan can be the difference in staying with the program or bulking it and giving up. The key to a healthy eating plan is a menu. Planning your meals will save you time and money. The money saved will come from not having to make multiple trips to the farmers market or grocery store.

In the end it will all balance out, because that money can go into a better quality of food.

Eating Healthier Means Adding More Organic or Homegrown Herbs and Foods to your Menu

When you think of slimming down, most people think of Weight Watchers or Nutri-system. You can slim down by taking in herbs that burn fat.

Hot Mint with Lemon - Did you know that vitamins found in lemons help move fatty acids to a place where they are burned naturally by your body? Place 1 cup of water, 1 teaspoon of honey and juice from 1/2 lemon into a small pot and warm it. Then place 1 sprig of mint and lemon grass into a cup and pour the hot lemon mixture over it. It makes a soothing and relaxing cup of tea.

Elderberry Punch is a winner, especially during cooler months. Elderberries contain a lot of vitamin C. It helps liquidate calories. In a covered pan, bring 1/2 cup of elderberry juice, 1/2 cup of apple juice, two cloves and a small piece of cinnamon and a little lemon juice to a boil for five minutes.

Strain and pour into a glass. You can also purchase a dry mixture of the elderberry, cloves and lemon grass to make an elderberry syrup.

A Flat Stomach is something we all would love to have. If you're challenged with gas or bloating, sage can help you. Add birch to the blend to cleanse your gut and you’ve got a winner for sure.

Pour 1 cup of boiling water over a teaspoon of birch tea and a bag of sage tea. Steep for 10 minutes. Strain and sweeten with honey.

Green Tea and Pineapples makes a great morning blend. My Island friends taught me about this one. Pour boiling water over a bag of green tea. Allow to steep for about 3 minutes. Add 1 teaspoon of fresh pineapples to a mug and pour the green tea over the pineapples.
